Hello everyone,

This information is for parents who have registered their 1st or 2nd grader for the Dads' Club basketball league.  If you have not registered yet though, there are still a few spots left in each league, but time is running out.  To register, please go to http://tshq.bluesombrero.com/abdadsclub.

First, I would like to thank you for registering your child to participate in the 2019-2020 Amy Beverland Dads' Club basketball league.  For those of you who are new to the league, you are in for a great experience.  Every year, the overwhelming feedback from players and parents is how much fun this league is.  Your children will learn the fundamentals of basketball, have a lot of fun, and make some new friends.  Many parents also tell us that they have made a lot of new friends with other parents through this league.

Next week, we will be having our two evaluation nights on November 12th and November 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the ABE gym.  All boys will be evaluated on the 12th and all girls will be evaluated on the 13th.  THESE ARE NOT TRYOUTS!  All players who registered will be placed on a team.  We hold these evaluations in efforts to create fairly balanced teams for the upcoming season.  Please arrive at 6:30 for your child's respective evaluation night.  We will have participants wait outside until 6:30 so that we can get things set up in the gym and so that after school care has a chance to complete their duties without a large crowd coming in.  Once the doors open, the children will go through several stations and demonstrate their skill level (i.e. shooting, dribbling, etc.).  For many of the participants, this may be their first time touching a basketball......and that is ok!  We just want to make sure we do not have a team constructed of all players that have played before.  Once we open the doors for evaluations, we will run each player through on a continual basis until all players have completed the evaluation.  Once the last player has gone through, the evaluations will be done so that we are not holding our many volunteers late into the evening for latecomers.  Please make sure to arrive on time.

After the evaluations, there will be a coaches meeting on November 21st.  All coaches will receive a separate email about this meeting.  At the coaches meeting, players will be divided into their different teams.  Following the coaches meeting, each coach will reach out to their team and introduce themselves and let them know about their teams schedule.

Practices will begin December 2nd and 3rd, depending on your team's assigned practice night.  No games will be played in the month of December, so that players have a chance to get used to the game and teams get used to each other.  All games will begin in January, during the week of the 6th (first week back after winter break).  Practices will still continue during that time.

There will be more information to come, but I wanted to make sure to send the reminder out about evaluation nights.  Any questions, just let me know!

Last but definitely not least, I wanted to say a special thanks to our league co-chairs Ryan Smith and Larry Stone who make this league happen.  Additionally, the committee members of Arun Murali, Randy Working, Jacob Blalock and Travis Stratton for all of their work in making sure this league happens as well.

It's going to be a great season and we look forward to seeing your ABE Star out on the court!

Best regards,
Scott Maskel
ABE Dads' Club President
